Radiation therapy Department is well equipped department with up-to-date tele therapy machines delivering 3D conformal,IMRT , VMAT(Rapid arc) radiation therapy.
• Machines :
- Simulator with C.T option acuity providing verification for 2D plan.
- Two Linear accelerator with MLC and portal image for 3D conformal radiation therapy.
- One true beam (1st true beam in Egypt )with HD MLC for IMRT , Rapid arc , IGRT , stereotactic radio surgery.(cranial . extra cranial ) nearest future.
- The technology of IMRT - Rapid arc allow more sparing of normal tissue surround the treated area with more precision .
- Also HD dynamic MLC with 2-5 mm thickness from inside allow treatment of small lesions (cranial and extra cranial) with high precision using technique of stereotatic radio surgery.
- Simulator C.T, eclipse planning system are connected to
Radiation therapy machines as well as (C.T, MRI,PET CT) of the hospital (IMC).
• True beam :
True beam Is an external radiotherapy system dynamically synchronizes imaging patient positioning, motion management and treatment delivery, it is versatile platform which can be used for all forms of advanced radiotherapy modalities including :
- ( IGRT) image guided radiotherapy.
- ( IMRT) intensity modulated radiotherapy.
- ( VMAT, Rapid arc) volumetric intensity modulated Arc therapy.
- ( SBRT) stereotactic whole body radiotherapy.
- Conventional and 3D conformal radiotherapy.
True beam system bring leading edge tumor care to communities by positioning clinics at the forefront in the light against tumor . Designed from the ground up to treat moving targets with advanced speed and accuracy . The True - beam platform is a fully integrated system hits tumor anywhere in the body where radiation treatment is indicated .True beam system is provided with High Definition (HD) multileaf collimator used for stereotactic Radio surgery (cranial and extra cranial ) .
• Advantages of True beam:
- It accelerates treatment by intelligent automation , imaging , positioning and reduction of the number of steps needed for the treatment .
- It offers more convenience for the patients by shortening treatment periods with a dose rate of up to 2400 monitor units MU/minute with FFF (free flattening filter) mode that shorten the treatment time by about 90% .
- A complex Radio surgery operation which lasts from 40 minutes to 2 hours can be performed in 5-20 minutes by giving higher dose in a shorter time .
- it enables increase in hitting the target by giving less time for tumor movement during dose delivery that is performed in a very short time also sensitivity of the True beam system less than 1mm which provide more protection to surrounding normal tissue . This accuracy is provided by the sophisticated structure of the system which forms a new synchronization level among technologies of imaging positioning , management of movement .

- Radiotherapy using True beam with on board kilovoltage images (OBI) is an effective localization method to reduce the uncertainties in the estimation of tumor location and aids in correction of patient positioning , as it is difficult for the 2D Kilovoltage (KV) imagining system to image soft tissue , Minimizing time for patient setup with high accuracy for online review of patient positioning.
