The Infectious Diseases Department at the Center identifies and treats medical conditions and diseases arising from exposure to infectious agents and microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses or parasites, as well as infections following medical or surgical procedures)

Types of infectious pathogens:

Viruses: microorganisms that cause influenza, COVID-19, and AIDS
|

Bacteria: organisms that cause diseases such as tuberculosis and skin infections
|

Fungi: cause skin infections and other diseases

Parasites: organisms that feed on their host, such as malaria
|

 |
Methods of transmission of infectious diseases:

• From person to person: (via contaminated droplets, contaminated surfaces, or direct contact) • From animals to humans: (known as zoonoses (such as Ebola and COVID-19) • Via vectors: (such as insect bites, which carry and distribute pathogens) • Via contaminated food and water
