Medical Laboratory

The medical Laboratory department consists of nine labs, covering all laboratory investigation spectrum, in addition to blood bank service unit.

• Histopathology Lab:
this lab performs examinations upon all types of tissue specimens, biopsies and surgically excised diseases organs. All technical preparation steps are performed, using recent fully automated instruments, the lab is also equipped with an automated Immunohistochemistry stainer, helping to detect early pathological and malignant cellular transformations & staging of pathogenic disorders. The Scanoscope Service: help to review the diagnosis of difficult and rare cases by consulting Referral American and European histopathology labs.

• Virology lab
Diagnose viral pathogenic organism by the use of automated Biorad ELISA system and Chemiluminescence Architect system.


• Drug Monitoring lab:
Therapeutic drug monitoring by using Chemiluminescence Architect system.


• Hematology lab:
performs complete blood picture( Haemogram ) using three fully automated systems:-
- Coulter LH 780-110 samples/hour.
- Abbot RUBY-80 samples/hour.
- Abbot Emerald-50 samples/hour.
All Coagulation investigations e.g:- PT, PTT, fibrinogen, protein C & protein S are performed by tow Fully Automated Systems
- Stago compact system.
- IL-Acu Star Elite system.
The Coulter Flowcytometry System help to diagnose the type of leukemia and lymphoma diseases & to follow up the cases after therapeutic medications.


• Chemistry lab:
Estimating blood glucose levels, kindly function tests, liver function tests, cardiac enzymes, lipid profile, lipase, amylase test, blood electrolytes by two different fully automated Chemistry Autoanalyser System:- Beckman AU80 and Vitrous 5600. 700 tests /hour for each instrument. The unit is also equipped with a fully automated capillary electophoresis system - Minicap Sebia - helping to accurate performance of: Protein, Lipid, Hemoglobin & Immunoglobulins electrophoresis tests, with a capacity of;- 20 Tests /hour.


• Microbiology lab:
Examine all biological body fluids and excreta. Performing culture & antibiotic sensitivity tests by the use of:- automated VitekII System and blood culture Bactec 9050 system. In addition, Urine Specimen are tested automatically by a fully automated system - H800 Urine analyzer (FUS-100).


• Hormones and tumor markers lab:
Measurement by fully automated DXI 800 system & Beckman Access II unit.


• Immunolgical lab:
Supplied with an Inverted Microscopy, Fluorescence Microscopy in addition to Turbidemetry device system, working upon immunological indices investigations.


• Molecular Biology lab:
detect and quantitate DNA or RNA different bacteria and virues by adopting PCR principle, e.g:- HBV, HCV, CMV, EBV;of TB.
Doing PCR for Thrombophilia Gene Screen, in addition to:- HLA typing & final tissue cross match prior to tissue or organ transplantations.
Using two different Real Time PCR systems:-
AB7000 Real time Sequencer & Biorad CFX96 Real time Sequencer.


• Blood Bank Service Unit:
- Determine blood grouping and do cross matching for blood ordered from different medical departments, using Immunological Cards, from two eminent cooporations-Grifolis & Diamed. The Blood Bank is equipped with:-
Refrigerators, Deep Freezers & Platelets Storage Systems
Storage Capacity of 1200 packed RBCs units.
- 2000 fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate units.
- 55 Platelets preservation bags each of 12 units.
